This Mother’s Day, I found myself reflecting on three incredible women—my mom, my daughter, and my wife.

My mom, Lynda, passed away years ago, but her presence never truly left. She had a deep love for butterflies. During her chemotherapy treatments, she would walk through hospital halls placing butterfly stickers on other patients’ walls—quietly spreading comfort, warmth, and hope wherever she could.

My daughter Ivy shared a close bond with her grandmother, and losing her was one of the hardest experiences our family has ever faced. We were all living together at the time, helping care for my mom during treatment, and the loss left an emptiness that words could never fully explain.

Over the years, butterflies became part of our conversations about her. Sometimes one appears unexpectedly during moments when we are remembering, reflecting, or speaking about my mom—and in those quiet moments, it almost feels as though love has briefly stepped back into the room.

I have always admired Ivy’s strength, resilience, and ability to keep moving forward while still carrying that love with her. In many ways, this piece is also about that kind of courage—the quiet courage of continuing.

And then there is Katrina—Teo’s mom. The one who fills our home with patience, gentleness, and care each day. Through her, I see the same kind of love my mom gave to me—now continuing forward into another generation.

Teo, our son, grows surrounded by all of it. The love that came before him, the love that holds him now, and the love that will continue long after these moments pass.
